Book Review Corner

The place to share your favorite books!

Calling all UIW Students!

All UIW Students are eligible to become book reviewers for the UIW Creators Book Review page.

To become a reviewer, you simply need to choose a book and submit a book review proposal (see Guidelines below). If your proposal is chosen, the UIW English Department will order and pay for the book, you’ll pick it up, then read and write the review during that semester.

We can’t wait to see all the wonderful book recommendations you all have!

Guidelines for book review proposals

  • Write a brief paragraph on why you think the book of your choice is a good one to review.

  • Include the full title of the book, the book’s author, and the publication of the book.

  • Also include a rough date on when you intend to submit your review (after receiving and reading your book).

  • Email Dr. Armstrong at darmstro@uiwtx.edu to submit your proposal. Please write in the subject line of the email: BOOK REVIEW PROPOSAL - [YOUR NAME].

Guidelines for Book Reviews

Must be about books that are new releases—around one to two years old.

(If you’d like to propose reviewing something older, make your case for it; explain why you think it’s a good idea.)

750 to 1,200 words long.

Talk about the book in question without sharing key spoilers.

Include the following points:

  • Information about the book (who wrote the book? Has the book won any awards? Is it a sequel/prequel/spinoff of an existing book? What are any other interesting facts about the book that might interest potential readers?)

  • General synopsis (Who are the characters? What is the plot? What are any other interesting moments in the book, without spoiling key moments?)

  • Critiques and praises (What did you like about the book? What are themes or takeaways in the book that stood out to you?)

  • Conclusion (Why should other people read this book? What are other personal opinions/takes that you have that might make your book noteworthy and readable?)
